Looking for Wolfie

Wolfie update July 2010

Wolfie is now in rehab! After his weeks spent at large in the New Forest, Wolfie was very thin and traumatised, and spent around 3 days just sleeping! He was very nervous, prone to shaking and is reticent to interact with people and other dogs. He is now being fed 3 meals a day and is tolerating that well and putting on weight. With time, small steps and keeping his world small, he is gradually learning that life in the UK isn't as scary as he first thought. Wolfie's rehabilitation will be a slow process, but he is improving every day, and will get there in the end.

Wolfie is home safe and sound!!

Wolfie was found this morning (Sunday 20th June) in the graveyard at Fordingbridge church. He was found by a vet, Luke, from Pilgrims Vets. Wolfie was nervous, but Luke is experienced at catching dogs and managed to get hold of him. Wolfie is now back home and in a safe and secure kennel, recovering after his travels! Luke checked him over, and although he is very thin, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him.

As you can imagine, everyone is very relieved and very grateful to Luke. Sue and Grahame would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone involved in the search for Wolfie. It has been truly amazing how so many people have given their time and energies to looking for Wolfie over the last 3 weeks. Luke was able to identify Wolfie by the poster that had been sent to the Pilgrims vet practice, so getting the word around played a vital part in getting him back.

People will be going out this afternoon to take the posters down, but if anyone is out walking in the area and sees a poster, please can you take it down. The Forestry Commission have been promised that this would be done as soon as Wolfie was found.

Wolfie

Wolfie is a german shepherd coloured Lurcher that came over from Greece last week. He went missing in the New Forest on Monday 31st May. He is very nervous and runs away from people. He has been sighted many times (see map below - click to enlarge), but so far no one has been able to get close enough to catch him.

Latest updates

Sunday 20th June 1:00pm

Wolfie was found this morning in the graveyard at Fordingbridge church. He was found by a vet, Luke, from Pilgrims Vets.

Saturday 19th June 11:15am

There has been a possible sighting of Wolfie in the Moyles Court/Rockford Common area at 11am this morning.

Saturday 19th June 8:00am

There were reports to the Dog Warden yesterday of a thin German Shepherd running around in the Hinton area off the A35 (view on Google maps) by the Conqueror Inn/Eastclose Country House. Although a way out of the area, it is possible that Wolfie could have got this far since the last sighting on Wednesday. From a distance Wolfie could be mistaken for a german shepherd due to his colouring, so until disproved, these reports are being taken seriously.

Friday 18th June 10:00pm

Despite teams out walking the areas of Poulner/Highwood/Linford Bottom and Linwood/Hasley/Ogdens today, there have been no reported sightings of Wolfie today. More people will be out again over the weekend searching. As this is a busier time, it's more likely there will be a sighting to follow up.

Thursday 17th June 10:00pm

There have been no reported sightings of Wolfie today.

Wednesday 16th June 11:30am

Wolfie was seen this morning at 11am by two people on horse back. He was in the Hasley Encolsure area, between Linwood and Ogdens.

Tuesday 15th June 9:00pm

Wolfie has be seen twice this morning in the Poulner area. Once near the school in Poulner heading toward Cowpitts Lane at around 6:30am,and then again at around 7:00am in fields off Linford Road near the church.

Monday 14th June 7:30pm

There have been no reported sightings of Wolfie today.

Sunday 13th June 1:30pm

Wolfie was sighted going through bins on Morant Road in Poulner at 7am this morning. He was then seen at around 8am in fields close by. By 10am he had moved on, and was in the woods between Linford Road and Cowpitts Lane. There was a team of searchers out within 30 mins, and he was spotted several more times in the area. with the last sighting being at around 12:30pm in the fields between Cowpitts Lane and Highwood Lane, where he disappeared again. 2 people out with dogs said he followed them and was playing with the dogs at around 11:30am to 12:00pm from Highwood down to Cowpitts lane, so it's more likely he will come to other dogs than people. The map has now been updated with these sightings.

Saturday 12th June 5:00pm

There was a further sighting of Wolfie at 7am this morning on the lane between Tesco at Poulner and In-Excess at Hangersley, which means this morning's report is more probable. People have been out walking around the area and postering throughout the day, but there have been no further glimpses of him.

Saturday 12th June 8:00am

There has been an unconfirmed sighting of Wolfie in a field in Hangersley ataround 6am this morning, not far from In-Excess garden centre.

Friday 11th June 5:00pm

Wolfie has been spotted several times today on Rockford Common between Moyles Court and the Red Shoot pub to the south of the road.

Thursday 10th June 10:00pm

Wolfie was been spotted near Cherry Oaks at about 8pm this evening, and he was then seen briefly about half a mile from there at 9:30 pm heading towards Linford Bottom (see updated map). He scurried off quickly, but was moving OK.

Thursday 10th June 7:00am

The food that was left out for Wolfie where he was seen last night had not been touched at 6am this morning which is a shame. It may mean that he has moved on again from that area, - or he may just be having a lie-in!

Wednesday 9th June 7:30pm

Wolfie was seen again 3 or 4 times in the same area as this morning between 5pm and 6 pm tonight. He is looking good, but ambles away when anyone tries to approach him. Food has been left out for him to encourage him to keep returning to the same area.

Wednesday 9th June 12pm

Wolfie has been seen twice this morning in the Little Chibden Bottom area of Ibsley Common, once at very close quarters (shown on the updated map above). He is looking well, and still has his collar on. If you are going out looking for him, please take care as there are ground nesting birds in the area.

Tuesday 8th June 10pm

No sightings of Wolfie today. Several teams have been out searching on Rockford Common, and making sure that dog walkers and horse riders around that area are aware that Wolfie is still missing. There has been quite a lot of interest from the media over the last couple of days, so if he has moved out of the area, people should get to hear about him and how to get in touch.

Monday 7th June 8pm

Encouragingly, there was a possible sighting of Wolfie today at around 5pm on Rockford Common by someone out walking their dog. This is close to his last confirmed sighting, and there is a lot of vegetation and rabbits around so it would be a good place for him to hole up. The usual crew have been out there looking for him, but he seems to have gone before they got there. Anyway a good place to start searching tomorrow!

Sunday 6th June 10pm

Again a disappointing day with no sightings of Wolfie. More postering in different areas to spread the net wider. Again, sweeps have been made of all the areas he has been seen in previously. Just waiting for another sighting now, may be he will show himself with it being quieter after the weekend and half term.

Saturday 5th June 4pm

Another disappointing day with lots of people out looking for Wolfie since 4am this morning, but still no sightings. The Ringwood Rotary club fun ride and ramble started from Moyles Court and riders were given handouts about Wolfie with contact details. Sweeps have been made of all the areas he has been seen in previously, and further sweeps will be made later this evening.

Friday 4th June 7pm

Several people have been out looking in the places he has been seen up to now, but so far there have been no reported sightings of Wolfie today. More posters have been put up in the areas he was seen in on Thursday. A number of people are coming to help with the search over the weekend.
